Who can participate? The Poster contest is opened to 6th and 7th form boys and girls. The Essay contest is opened to 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th form boys and girls and to 1st course university students.
What should the participants submit?
Posters: One 8-1/2” X 11” (A4) drawing, collage, sketch, or painting reflecting this year’s theme, “Women in the Workforce”. It should explore the possibilities of how women are perceived in the workforce and what skills they can bring to the workplace. All Posters should include a title.
Essays: A traditional 5-paragraph essay in Armenian explaining their thoughts and ideas on the topic “Women in the Workforce”. The aim is to encourage Armenia’s youth to express their opinions and ideas related to how they perceive women as contributing members of Armenia’s workforce.
The essays can address the questions:
- What jobs are women suited for?
- Are there jobs that are more suitable for men, or for women?
- Should women and men earn the same about of money?
- What skills can women bring to the workforce?
Essays should be written by students on their own time and submitted to the Volunteer by a deadline of their choosing, in order to be submitted to us in a timely fashion. Essays should be submitted on traditional Teter notebooks and must be in essay form. It is not acceptable for students to simply answer the prompted questions in one sentence.
Please ensure the participant’s name, grade, and city/town/village name are clearly written on the backside of the artwork or essay.

When is the contest deadline? All submissions must be in the Peace Corps or AYWA Office by Saturday, March 20th, 2010. Judging will be held during the following week.
Are there prizes? Yes, there will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners of the national contest for both poster and essay. On April 6th there will be an Awards ceremony in Yerevan for winners, where they will receive their prize and a complementary visit to the Matenadaran.
