A press conference for mass media took place in Akhtala. The event was organized by the EU in Armenia and Armenian Young Women’s Association within Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project. During the event the project’s current achievements and results were presented to the participants.
Lilit Asatryan, the President of Armenian Young Women’s Association presented the local economic development (LED) component of Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project. She mentioned that one of the project achievements in LED component implementation process is the cluster approach adopted by AYWA. It enables to view the community not in separation but in the context of communities surrounding it and defining local economic development approaches for other cluster communities too.
"At the moment we have 25 communities included in three local economic development models, whereas the initially planned number of communities was three”, added Lilit Asatryan.
The brochure about the results of the Local Economic Development project Akhtala, Shamlugh, Chochkan and Mets Ayrum communities developed in February 2014 was presented to the participants of the event.
Reference was made also to the next component of the project about women's entrepreneurial capacity building (business training courses), which enables women to lay the foundation for the entrepreneurship in the communities by following the recommendations, problems and the development identified in the framework of the LED project.
The best projects presented by the participants of the entrepreneurship trainings will receive financial assistance by the Armenian Young Women’s Association.
Tigran Badoyan, the Deputy Governor of Lori region and the project's beneficiary women who had partcipated in the entrepreneurship trainings were among the speakers of the event. They highlighted the role of the Project components as a powerful stimulus for the development in the communities of Lori Region.
Armenian Young Women’s Association (AYWA) has been implementing Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project in Lori Region since May 2013. The project duration is three years from May 2013 to May 2016.
The goal of the Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project is to promote the development of women’s social and economic capacities in Lori region and the improvement of women’s social and economic situation. The project partners are CISP organization, Lori Marzpetaran and Vanadzor municipality.
