Women Entrepreneurs Network in Armenia

In the framework of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Week in Armenia YSU hosted the representatives of the International Conference on Women’s Entrepreneurship.
The initiator of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Week and the International Conference on Women’s Entrepreneurship is the Armenian Young Women’s Association under the auspices of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs. The conference is aimed at the development of ties between local and foreign women entrepreneurs and is attended by many women entrepreneurs, representatives of international organizations and others.

Today, YSU Centre for European Studies hosted the Chairman of the AYWA Lilit Asatryan, Vice-President of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs Christine Marie Oghly, Secretary General of this Association Joel Bakialon and Head of the European Network of Women in Leadership Nestan Kirtadze. The host side was represented by YSU Vice-rector on Students, Alumni and Public Relations Ruben Markosyan.

In the beginning of the meeting Ruben Markosyan presented the activities directed at the development of the business environment at YSU.

“In last 2 years we have made some steps towards the development of entrepreneurship at our university. YSU Academic Council has made a decision on the opening of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, which will help students to come up with various innovative ideas and projects. This centre will be an incubator for a startup. It will also become a new platform in the field of student affairs,” - said Mr. Markosyan.

Then our guests made their opening remarks. The participants of the meeting were mainly the female students. Everyone expressed the ideas on what is important for women’s entrepreneurship.

“If you want to do business, enter the business environment, you should be ready to overcome various challenges. But I should add that it is not only difficult, but also interesting,” - said Marie-Christine Oghly, adding that their organization is ready to help young people to participate in the exchange programs available at foreign universities to obtain knowledge on the entrepreneurship.

Secretary General of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs Joel Bakialon added that entrepreneurship is a passion: one should love what he does.

Then the guests answered the questions, which mainly related to the first steps in starting a business, the necessary skills, market and so on.

At the end of the meeting Ruben Markosyan handed the representatives of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs YSU Commemorative Medal on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of this organization. They will pass this medal the President of this organization Laura Frater Gucci. And Lilit Asatryan handed YSU Acting Rector Aram Simonyan and Ruben Markosyan letters of gratitude for supporting the conference.
